today i am going to brew deroux's version of hop rod rye
since his recipe is for a 12 gallon batch and i want a 5.5 gallon
can i use a ratio to covert quantities?
example 18 lbs of 2 row for 12 gallons to 5.5 gallons
18/12= 1.5 x 5.5 = 8.25 lbs for my batch?
any help appreciated
thanks,rod

just got it in the fermenter.
here is the adjusted recipe i used for 5.5 gallon(24 litres)
8.5 lbs 2 row malt
3.0 lbs rye malt
7 oz flaked wheat
22 oz munich malt
9 oz carapils malt
9 oz wheat malt
1.6 oz black patent malt
22 oz amber invert sugar
1 oz columbus at 60 minutes
1.4 oz columbus at 40 minutes
.9 oz centennial at 30 minutes
.5 oz centennial at 10 minutes
will dry hop in secondary with .7 oz amarillo and .9 oz centennial.
i batch sparged and collected about 32 litres of wort.
after boil ended up with 24 litres in fermenter at 1.070
can someone with the right software calculate my effeciency(probably low)??
the grains still tasted sweet but i was out of room for the boil - even boiled an extra 1/2 hour before the first hop addition to make room for the extra wort.
i need a bigger pot than 30 litres!!
boiling wort on sandals is not a good thing!
now to bottle my pre-prohibition american lager brewed mar 11/06 and lagered until yesterday.

o well - at least i like this thread:D
this is the first beer i have used so much wheat
is it normal to have a lot of fine trub??
usually i filter through a sanitized nylon paint strainer to the primary fermenter to leave all the trub behind.
this beer clogged it after 5 or 6 litres.
i ended up just putting everything in the primary, trub and all.
never done this before - will have to make sure i get to secondary on time.

just curious if this is normal for this beer

Never done a wheat before, but I think the ratio you used was fine to cut down the recipe to 5 gallons :).

update - bottled the hop rod rye june 25 - came out to 7.6 abv and tasted great even though flat.
thanks for the recipe deroux!
