Hello all,
Never thought about joining a homebrew thread until recently when I was looking for info regarding best hop addition methods for Pale ales and I signed up. But it appears Ive never made an introduction?
Ive been homebrewing for 4 years now. I started off doing extract kits like most people on here probably, and I bottled. Ive had hit or miss success with extract kits in my experience, I feel that extract kits were not "fresh" as going and buying the grains in bulk. Ive made 20+ batches of all different ales, no lagers under my belt to date. My freqency for brewing since I brew 10 gal at a time is roughly every few months or until the kegs are close to running dry. Future upgrade, double gas regulator, and extra cornelius kegs so I can continue to brew and have some where to put the beer...
two years ago I decided to put on some man pants and start doing All-grain batches. I picked up a grain mill, a 10 gal Mashtun setup, a kegerator (made a few upgrades to it), and now I keg 10 gal batches at a time. Way better than bottling, I just fill growlers and bring them over to friends places or self-capping bottles. Every All-grain batch ive made, even the ones that ive screwed up, turned out good. So if youve been on the fence about converting over to all-grain, I suggest doing it. Its not that much added extra steps.
Some recent brews I can think of that I have made:
-Imperial chocolate milk stout ~8.5% ABV, OG 1.090, FG 1.028
-Magic Hat #9 clone ~6% ABV, OG 1.057, FG 1.014
-Kona FireRock Pale Ale clone ~4.5% OG 1.038, FG 1.012 (screwed the mash up on this one) tasted great still
-Sam Adams Rebel IPA ~6% OG 1.059, FG 1.010
-Vanilla Bean Cream Ale ~6% OG 1.056, FG 1.008
My Equipment setup
-1/2 keg used as a kettle (buh bye $30 deposit). I had a friend blow torch and grind the top to fit a crab pot lid. 1/2 keg holds 15 gallons fyi.
-10 gal mashtun
-nice wooden paddle from amazon
-various components from multiple starter kits.
-Kegerator fitted with 1/4" MFL quickdisconnects, ball lock gas and liquid connectors, perlick 630SS faucets ( although not pictured here. Perlick faucets were a more recent upgrade than this picture.)
Thanks for looking. My purpose for being here is for discussions about brewing and techniques. If you are a beginner brewer, I am more than willing to help with any questions you may have.
My background is Biochemistry.
