I brewed the West Coast Blaster recipe from the book "Brewing Classic Styles" by Zainsaheff and Palmer and hit my target OG. :rockin: This is my 5th extract brew and second full boil, and the first time I actually hit my target OG. I had to modify the recipe a bit because my LHBS didn't have the English Pale Ale LME called for in the recipe. They only stock one type, a light pilsner LME. When I questioned this, they said that their approach was that all the flavor comes from steeping grains anyways. This was new to me but makes sense.

Here's the recipe I ended up brewing today:

West Coast Blaster (Red IPA)

Size: 6.0 gal

Original Gravity: 1.064 (1.056 - 1.075)
Target Gravity: 1.016 (1.010 - 1.018)
Color: 18.02 (6.0 - 15.0)
Alcohol: 6.27% (5.5% - 7.5%)
Bitterness: 66.7 (40.0 - 70.0)

Extract:
9.5 lb Pale Liquid

Steeping Grains:
16.0 oz Crystal Malt 40°L
8.0 oz Crystal Malt 120°L
4.0 oz Cara-Pils® Malt
8.0 oz American Victory
4 oz Pale Chocolate
4 oz CaraPils

Hops Schedule
1.0 oz Horizon (12.0%) - added during boil, boiled 90 min
1 oz Centennial (9.7%) - added during boil, boiled 15.0 min
1 oz Cascade (5%) - added during boil, boiled 10.0 min
1 oz Cascade (5%) - added during boil, boiled 0.0 min
1 oz Centennial (9.7%) - added during boil, boiled 0.0 min
1.0 ea White Labs WLP001 California Ale
