I've been working on developing that inexpensive, easy drinking beer that fits my tastes to call my own house ale. After spending some time formulating I came up with this recipe and it turned out GREAT! It's just a hair on the sweet side, possibly because of my thermometer reading low and adjusting causing a full body mash rather than a lite body mash. I'm going to try and brew the recipe with a lower mash temp before adjusting the grain bill. Depending on the results I may cut the carapils back to 3 or 4oz.

American Pale Ale
Batch size: 5.5 Gallon
Boil size: 7.5
Est SG @ 70% eff: 1.049
SRM: 5.1
IBU: 35.8
ABV: 4.82%

Grain
8 lbs 2-Row (US)
2 lbs Maris Otter (US)
0.25 lbs Crystal 40L
0.25 lbs CaraPils

Hops
1 oz Cascades @ 60 min
0.5 oz Cascades @ 30 min
0.25 oz Cascades @ 10 min
0.25 oz Cascades @ 5 min

Yeast:
Safale US-05 (sprinkled dry onto 70*F wort)

Other:
1tsp Irish moss
1 tsp brew saltz

Mash:
3.25 gallons @ 153*F for 60 min
Batch sparge 5.5 gallons @ 175*F for 10 min

Ferment between 63*F and 65*F (I ended up fermenting for 4 weeks in the primary and it turned out super clean and crisp).
