I did all my homework about a year ago and want to make a clone or something close to Seirra Nevada's Red Rye IPA. The issue being I only have the equipment to do extract batches and everyone has told me, or read, that the rye has to be mashed. So is it possible to mash the Rye first and then proceed with the rest of the brewing?
Listed in the recipe:
Malt Bill:
Extract:
3.3lb PLE (8L)
2.5lb LDM (8L)
Mash:
3.0lb Rye malt (5L)
Steep:
0.25lb Crystal (60L)
0.25lb chocolate (350L)
0.25lb pale wheat (1.5L)
Hop Bill (all pellets)
30min:
1oz Bravo
15min:
1/3oz citra
1/3oz centennial
1/3oz simcone
Yeast:
One Pack WY1056 American Ale or WL001 California Ale
Thank you for any advance
