I did an Amber ale that wasn't perfect but when drinking I thought "this would make a nice base to an IPA"

So basically I took the grain bill for that beer and kicked it up a little in weight, lightened the color a bit, and then tossed in some honey malt which I imagined from the start to give it a little more "backbone". I wonder if that's too much honey or too much wheat. I like a crisp IPA but I want this to be able to "prop up the hops"

I'm most concerned about my hop schedule. I'm going for something with a decent kick, but a lot of flavor and aroma! I love a hoppy taste and smell, but am trying to balance it with some notes that aren't just floral. I almost imagine a whole meadow (woody, piney, fruity, floral) instead of just a rose garden

Either way, I think this recipe as-is would be tasty, but maybe someone more experienced can see where my recipe might clash with my goals, or of anything otherwise seems odd.

pre-emptive thanks for any feedback! :mug:

p.s. should i dry-hop Cascade, Chinook, or combo?

the only thing i would consider changing is the 1# of crystal 60. that mixed with the honey malt might end up a tad sweet. maybe cut down the crystal to .5-.75#? the hops look good and that wheat malt addition will be good as well.

and definitely dry hop that sucker. i don't see why you couldn't use both cascade and chinook. maybe .5-1.0 oz of each for 7 days or so.

So I cut the crystal back a little and halfed the honey malt. I dry hop for a week with 1oz cascade and 1oz chinook. I've made this twice now and it's delicious, it is not dry, but the sweetness nicely balances the powerful hop flavors. I believe I mashed lower last time, if not I plan to move the mash temp lower 'till I get the perfect balance.
