Hi There,

Been lurking for a few months, and finally took the plunge to start homebrewing after thinking about it for so long.

Planning to brew my first 5.5gal batch on the weekend, an IPA from an All Grain kit purchased from Hopdawgs.ca.

I just have to finish my mash tun, I have a 5 gal water cooler that I was initially planning to use, but after putting the bag of grain in to check depth it looks like it might be too small. According to the online calculators I can mash it at 1.25/gal. Should I skip this one and step up to a 48Gal rectangular cooler and be done with it?

Thanks, and looking forward to sharing some results with you folks soon.

Cheers, Chris

I do 5.5 gallon batches as well and use a 10 gallon Rubbermaid cooler. Its more room than I need for most any brew and I have plenty of room to brew up bigger beers. Just add a false bottom and valve and you are ready to rock! :mug:
