I got a late start with these rhizomes this year. Got a sprouted NEO1 hop from Organarchy in the mail. Don't know much about NEO1, but they are supposed to be very heat and drought tolerant.
Got it planted the beginning of June in a large raised pot. Setup a trellis using a flag pole that was already installed in the front yard. The area gets morning and partial afternoon sun and then shade the rest of the day.
I hooked up an automated drip system that waters the plant 5 mins (3 times a day)
Used organic miracle grow gardening soil and organic vegetable garden fertilizer. Found a few grasshoppers and pillars eating on some leaves, so I sprayed the plant down with organic veg insecticide soap.
So far the hop vines have grown 10+ feet and have cones all over. Can't believe the plant can survive in the 100F sun. Thought I would share in case others have thought about growing hops in this area.
Plant arrived in the mail with this much growth
One week
Attached to trellis
3 shooters grabbed to the lines
Water line run from house hose faucet with a mist sprayer tip
Flowers forming
Cones forming
