My watermelon wine dropped to .990 in just 6 days. I used a Montrachet yeast. The recipe i was following said to add more sugar at this point, if necessary, and let sit for another 7 days under airlock. Why more sugar at this point?

And has anyone else had gravity drop in 6 days?

Oh, usually I'm at .990 in 5 days or so. It happens all the time. I try to rack to secondary at 1.010-1.020, but I often miss it and it's at .990 before I do.

I have no idea why you'd add more sugar, unless you were trying to boost the alcohol.
