Any one used a 5000 watt step up converter to run a 240 volt Grainfather in America? Heading back to Texas with a grainfather bought in Europe wondering if this would be easier then running a 240 volt line.

I do not think you can get to there from here.

You can step up 120 to 240, but you are still consuming 5,000 watts. To get 5,000 watts from 120 VAC, you need 41.6 amps. I do not know of a 40+ amp 120 VAC circuit.

So, yes, you need a 240 VAC 30 amp circuit.
