I have a 1/2 hp. garage door opener motor. It is wired for 120v DC and 9 amps. Seems like a great fit for a grain mill motor, especially since it has a 3/8" shaft, the same as my mill. Anyone know the best way to convert 120v AC house current to 120v DC? I know I need a rectifier but can't find one that will handle the amperage.

Thanks!

120 ac is the 'RMS' voltage. It actually peaks at +/- 160 volts, so not as simple as just a rectifier. You'll need to throttle it back, which you could do with an SSVR, but then you might be tempted to control the speed with that as well, and you'll loose all the torque, and it will stall. You might be better off finding an AC motor if you don't have some basic electronics knowledge.
