Well this started out as a Pale Ale using German hops Mandarina Bavaria and Hull Melon from Yakima's wonderful hop box. It's a quarterly shipment (every 3 months) and you get 8 different hops, 2 oz each. So, I decided to try something 'different'.
6lbs 2 -row
4lbs Marris Otter
1lb Carapils
3.4lb caramunich
1/2lb victory
Mash at 150 for an hour BIAB. Sparged w/3 gallons at 170 deg. 6 gallons in the kettle.
90 minute boil
60 min add .5oz Madnarina Bavaria and .5 Hull Melon
30 min, add same as above
Whirlpool at 170 1oz of each listed above.
White labs WLP001 California Ale from starter.
2 weeks primary
2 weeks secondary
bottle conditioned
OG 1.054
FG 1.000 ( I have no idea how)
7% ABV
Good mouthfeel, good flavor and smooth for something with an IBU of near 50. I originally shot for an APA, hence a German/American pale ale, but the ABV went a lot higher than I thought. I bottled it on 7/5/20 and have only tasted 4 bottles. Going to chill a 6 pack today.
