looking to make my first all grain porter and would like to use flaked oats. I have read a lot about how flaked oats can add smoothness and other things, but never when to add it to the boil, or if you mash it with the grains???

My brother and I just brewed a Smauel Smith Oatmeal Stout clone and the oats went in with the mash.

ok, I was assuming that they went with the mash instead of the boil lol... but you never know until you ask right? :p

Did 10 gallons of Black Pearl Porter yesterday, my oats went in the mash. This is my second time making this porter and it was mighty smooth and tasty... yum oats.
