Still fairly new to homebrewing and I have only worked with recipe kits bought at my LHBS. I wanted to try to build a recipe, so let me know what you guys think i need to add and/or remove from this build.

5 gallon extract batch Porter:

6 lbs. Light DME
12 oz. Crystal 40L
4 oz. Black Malt
8 oz. Chocolate Malt

1 oz. Fuggles hops for 60 mins.
1 oz. East Kent golding hops for last 5 mins.

White Labs English Ale yeast.

Any advice would help.

That seems like a pretty good porter recipe. If you'd like some more ideas you ought to poke around the recipe section here or check out the one on tasty brew here:

If you have any other concerns or are looking to understand the difference between Port styles (ie: brown vs Baltic) definitely check out the style guides on the BJCP website here:

Agreed, this one looks good. A solid step up from the one you posted earlier today. Let us know how it comes out.

awesome. thanks for all the support. i should be starting this brew this weekend and will let you guys know how it goes.

I was also considering throwing 1 oz. of Willamette hops for either the full 60 or last 15 mins. to boost the IBU up.

Thoughts?

Your IBU is in range for the style, but if you like hoppy beer that it might be worth a try. I would leave it out.
