Hi Jim! Haven't "seen" you around lately. I'm glad that you posted, even though it was about FGCU. It was a good game, and they played well. Hopefully they'll continue to play like that.
Mercer is playing at BYU tonight. Go Bears!
Mercer lost the A-Sun tournament championship when the regular season champions Bears were upset by Florida Gulf Coast. The Bears ended up 1-2 agains the Golden Eagles this year.
So after beating Tennesee in Knoxville, Mercer climbed to exactly #100 in the Sagarin ratings. Mercer hasn't played since. Yet the Bears climbed another 10 spots!
After FGCU beat Georgetown, Mercer jumped to #91. After FGCU beat SDSU, Mercer climbed to #90.
The bulk of this gain is being pulled up on the triple coattails of FGCU's secondary factor of opponent's record, (and the tertiary opponent's opponent's record). Alabama's win over Stanford yesterday helped a little.

It was sad that 2 days after the tourament ended for FGCU that thrir coach took a job at USC...until the other day when they hired the former #1 assistant from Kansas as the new head coach. Dunk city now has a national recruiter.
It should also be known that the premier High School tourament in the country is held every December not 10 miles from FGCU's campus
