Beautiful Colorado, USA!
We've been all over the rock thing, but we've yet to hit on where it counts. What are those lyrics that are just so good? We've all heard lyrics that we just love so much. You don't even need to say who sung the lyrics if you don't want to or don't know. Hell, you can just pick out a single lyric if you want without rhyme or context. I'll throw down a few examples.

A 'proper' quote

Do not search this place for me
search for me deep in your heart
If I haven't built my memorial there
my life has been in vain

- L'ame Immortelle, Epitaph

Just a single profound line

Sometimes, the journey is what counts - Assemblage 23

And, of course, a shameless quote

I never belonged to her world
although I always tried so hard
a world that was too far away
for my own reality

In the hot and wet summer night
stunned by the sound of the falling rain
on the floor she falls asleep
while her blood runs down the drain

I'm not setting standards or format here, so have fun!

When I tell you that I love you,
dont test my love.
Just accept my love
'cause maybe I don't love you that much

Dan Bern

seas of blood, bury life
smell your death as it burns
deep inside of you
abacinate, eyes that bleed
praying for the end of
your wide awake nightmare

Take me down little susie, take me down
I know you think you’re the queen of the underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the mail
Send me dead flowers to my wedding
And I won’t forget to put roses on your grave
- Dead Flowers, Rolling Stones

Patty went a stolling one warm March day,
He came apon a leprechaun, the little elf did say
If you can catch me patty, you'll be a rich man when your old
Patty killed that f**kin' leprechaun and stole his pot of gold.

"Hey Paddy"

On your knees,
worship me.:ban:

Zakk Wylde

Swingin' in the living room
Swingin' in the kitchen
Most folks don't 'cause
They're too busy bitchin'
Swingin' in there 'cause
She wanted me to feed her
So I mixed up the batter
And she licked the beater

I scream you scream
We all scream for her
Don't even try 'cause
You can't ignore her

She's my cherry pie
Cool drink of water
Such a sweet surprise
Tastes so good
Make a grown man cry
Sweet cherry pie oh yea
She's my cherry pie
Put a smile on your face
Ten miles wide
Looks so good
Bring a tear to your eye
Sweet cherry pie

Oh , never, oh, never, oh, never again
If I live to be a hundred or a hundred and ten
I fell to the ground and I couldn't get up
after drinkin' a pint of the Johnnie Jump Up

I still have a soft (er?) spot for Suzanna H from the Bangles.... that drunk/sexy nasal whine of hers...

"I love it in your room at night
Oh I wonder what you're gonna do to me"

Imperial Walker said:
She was buns up kneeling
*buns up*
I was wheeling and dealing
*wheeling and dealing*

-Frank Zappa

Man, I haven't heard that in ages. Isn't this another line from the same song?

What 'bout you flora, you want some more-a?
How 'bout you fauna, you wanna?

Or am I thinking of something else?

Anyway, here's one that comes to mind:

Sometimes, I think it's a sin
When I feel like I'm winnin' when I'm losin' again

-G. Lightfoot.

I like all the lyrics to that song, actually.

Omaha's own Grasshopper Takeover !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From "Sailing":

"I'll do anything, be your bumble bee, sting the bad guys, bring you honey."

From "Take Me With You":

"She has got the Midas touch. Boy I love that girl so much. Royal flush and I can fold. Everything she touches turns to gold."

From the bathroom wall:

"In days of old when knights were bold
but toilets were not yet invented,
They laid their load upon the road
and walked away contented."

Here's to beer mud! :mug:

The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound and a wave broke over the railing

And every man knew as the captain did too, 'twas the witch of november come stealin'

G.L.

Yeah, the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald has some of the best lyrics ever, I agree.

Yeah, that song has always stayed with me. I was stationed at Finland AFB on the North shore of lake Superior a year after the wreck. The maritimers use to sing that song in the bars. The Duluth Maritime Museam had a good memorial for the crew.

Anyone know the origin of these lyrics?

But I've been hit and wounded, sail on morpheus seas of emptiness
I came with flowers for our last goodbye
You didn't care you didn't even cry
But smiled as if to say that's just the way it goes

probably not....zzzzz

Layin' on my back
in the newly mown grass
Rain is comin' down
But I know the clouds will pass
You bring me tea
Say the babe's a sleepin'
Lay down beside me,
Love ain't for keepin'

Mulligan and O'Hare:

I'm not saying I didn't love you,
or that I'm happy that you're dead,
but my doctor did advise you, to keep a rifle by your bed.
I'm not saying I didn't kill you,
but aren't you partially to blame,
you gave me chocolate digestives,
when you knew I prefered the plain.
I'm not saying I'll forget you,
but please remind me of your name,
my memory's somewhat distorted,
since I became insane.

Yup.. same song. It's called "Dynamo Hum" (on the "Overnight Sensation" album.)

That's one of my all-time favorite "fun" songs. (That and Joe Walsh's "Gammaguchi"(sp?)).

It's been many years since I left for revenge on my own
And after this time all the truth is beginning to show
The demons I hunted were always so easy to see
But now I know that the real demon is inside of me

I walk alone instead
Between the living and the dead
As time keeps passing by
And deep inside my head
Between the living and the dead
No harder can I try
