Expired, Swollen Wyeast 1450

I'm brewing a pumpkin ale and am using WY1450. I went to my LHBS and found one pack manufactured on December 8th of 2016. The bag had also been "popped" so it was swelled. They gave it to me for free. Think it'll work? I'll obviously use a starter but just wondering. My og will be ~1.065

I think I have read of success with similar yeast.
A starter will tell you if it's any good.
If it's all dead it will stink.

Just do a starter. I've redirected 3 year old wyeast snack packs using a starter with no problem. As long as it's refrigerated then it's always resurectable.
