To all beginning brewers.

I`ve been brewing 12 years and by no means know it all.I learned a very
valuable lesson today.Started off like most people with extract kits and
over the years now do nothing but all grain .I`ve managed to
finally put a 3 tier 10 gallon gravity set up together.Prior to that I used a
5 gallon setup with a braid.Long story short-I always bought my grain and
milled it at a Ma and Pa health food store in town here and my efficiency
was 75 to 80 %.Recently they opened a Brew-n-Grow in town(big box store).

I did 5 batches with grain from them and used their mill and my efficiency
dropped to 65%.Today I made a batch of Blonde Ale with grain I bought from the Ma and Pa store used their mill and and hit 80% again.Trying to dial in
a new setup can be a daunting task for consistency.I guess what I`m trying
to say is,Either buy your own grain mill,or buy and mill your grain at the same place every time or you never be able to formulate and duplicate recipes.
Brew-n- Grow`s mill is like the Grand Canyon (buy more grain).I cant wait
to get my own mill. You will save a ton of money milling grain yourself. It
took me 12 years to find this out.

cheers

agreed. I bought a mill and after a few test batches my efficiency jumped almost 10% from when i had it milled at the hbs
