would i be best with a round or square one?

i only ask cause the square will have more surface area vs the round.

does this matter?

does anyone find that you have more stuck mashes in one or the other?

i am looking at a 40 qt round one and a 42 qt square one and started think.

so here i am.

Doesn't matter, grain bed depth is more important. Take a look at Palmer's howtobrew.com Appendix D for way too much information.

I would say that square or rectangular is cheaper, but round is more efficient. Assuming the round cooler has a smaller footprint then the rectangular cooler, it will have a thicker grainbed, and hold the heat more constant and more evenly throughout the mash.

pay closer attention to the design and specs of the manifold and the grain depth than the shape of the tun.

+1

I have a round cooler with a false bottom....horrible effciency with fly sparging....75 to 80 % efficiency with batch sparging
