Hi all,

I've seen countless DIY builds for wood-framed/insulated fermentation chambers, starting with a mini-fridge. The typical point raised is that you still need another option for cold-crashing/lagering.

Do you think using a mini-freezer would fill the need for hitting necessary temps for lagering? Someone actually posed the question in the following thread, but the conversation quickly moved to mini-fridge and chest freezers.

I plan to build out the chamber and use the freezer, plus temp controller and heater to have a greater range of temps. One unit that I'm considering is this one: SPT Sunpentown UF-160W Upright Freezer - 1.6 Cu.ft.

Temps to 0 F. I'm looking at hitting temps for 2 carboys.

Not exactly sure what you are trying to do but maybe look at Craigslist and get a couple of used refrigerators and be done with it.
Would be an easier and cheaper solution.

good luck
