Seems a lot of folks categorize Dale's as an APA, including our beeradvocate friends. However, the IBU on this beer really puts it into the AIPA category.

So... APA or AIPA?

discuss!

Definitely classified as an IPA technically. However, to me it tastes more like an strong APA.

so the bigger questions why the APA classifcation at beeradvocate and other beer sites?

The line is really blurry. Dale's tastes like a good pale to me, it doesn't taste like a big IPA.

What about the 5%ABV 65IBU "Pale" I just brewed? Is it a pale ale or an IPA?

Stuff like this is why I hesitate to ever compete in style guideline comps

I did a best-guess Dale's clone recipe (which unfortunately didn't taste like a clone) but it had about the same BU:GU and ABV and entered it into a competition as a Pale Ale. It was rated as very good but "too hoppy for style. Closer to IPA."
