So I have searched (both the site and google) and I can't find any opinions on using Crown Royal to soak in oak cubes/chips in lieu of a bourbon whiskey.
I ask because I enjoy Canadian whiskey more than bourbons, and I have a NB Bourbon Barrel Porter fermenting as I type. I plan on following the suggestion of using Makers Mark, in order to keep true to the recipe, but I would still like to see if anyone has used crown. Thoughts?

Do it! I prefer just about every whisky to bourbon. one on my favorite recipes uses a peaty Scotch to soak oak chips for an English IPA. I'll post it if you like. I've never tried to oak a beer with it, but Canadian whiskey is great, especially Crown. I would also try it with Irish whiskey or American rye whiskey (Old Overholt is great)
