Does anybody have experience of steadying up over active boils when using electric heaters (I use Burco boilers). I have purchased two phase controllers - the idea being to chop the voltage once boil is achieved so that I have a gentle rolling boil. Too vigorous boil at present with much boiling over = wastage.

You could use a PWM as discussed in THIS thread.

Or go with a PID controller that has manual mode like THIS one here. This would give you temperature control as well as a PWM.

Folks - I purchased two "phase angle power regulator pot adjusters" - having spoken to a techie at the suppliers first. I guess I will get an electrician to wire them in series to each of my boilers and take it from there.
