Hello All.
I have not posted in a while. But here I am again. I have been brewing never fear - I got to use up all those bags of 2row I got from Ed's bulk grain buy. :)

I have a 10 gallon system but during the heat I tend to only do 5 gal batches. Easy to heat and cool and easier to move the stuff around.

My Q is this. I am having trouble hitting my ending volume with 5 batches. It seems that I am getting a better cold break and there is more "stuff" that is on the bottom.

Now, I use my autoshiphon to get my wort into my fer mentor and I generally try not to get the "stuff" on the bottom. I assumed this would make for a clearer beer.

Is that true? If I took all of that stuff it would help with my ending level.

I should sparge with more water?

<I do all grain>

Thanks for any insight.

To end up with 5 gallons of beer, try formulating your recipes for 6 gallons. You almost always have to leave some behind when racking.
