Hey-I stepped away from brewing for a long period of time. Thinking of re-entering the hobby. I have a tank of CO2 that has been in my kegerator for a few years. I assume its ok to use, why wouldn't it be?

I'm not sure where the CO2 suppliers around here get their gas. There's a large ethanol plant near by that captures the CO2 for the beverage industry. One good thing from the corn industry.

I used a few CO2 tanks with old stamps. 1982, 1986, & 1992. The first two sounded like Billy Joel when I opened the valve and tasted like mom jeans. The 90s one was a bit better. There wasn't that off flavor of internet, social media, and Justin Beiber. However, there was some noticeable bomber jacket and baggy jeans.

It just dawned on me where that "300,000,000 years old" thing might have come from: helium.
We can't make helium from scratch, we can only extract what's already extant...

Cheers!
