Hi all, I just read the mega-thread on yeast washing and I'd like to save the California Ale yeast that I used in my current IPA. Problem is, it's already in secondary. It seems obvious that using the stuff at the bottom of the primary would be preferable, but since that's not an option, can I use the stuff in the secondary after I'm done bottling tonight?

Thanks

Absolutely, no washing necessary.

I wouldn't primary ina carboy or BB though. Too hard to wash.

I have never understood this, "Too hard to wash".

Quick rinse and dump.

add a couple of scoops of Oxyclean and fill with warm water.

Let sit overnight and a quick brush with my carboy brush and it is spotless.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong........

Heh.... so now I'm conflicted. I got a vote for "yes" and a vote for "no." anyone else?

i plan on using the method detailed in the yeast washing thread, so i'll have about 4 Bell jars of the stuff. If I use starters made from those, do I have to worry that the yeast came from the "least flocculant and most highly stressed yeast" of the batch?
