What is it that specifically produces the black tar flavor in a RIS? I am curious if there is a certain type of grain and grain percentile combination that produces. I am guessing just a high percentile of Dark Roast Barley of around 10%? If that is the case, what ABV do you need to start with to achieve this?

Never tried to achieve this flavor but I would say roasted barley. Carafa don't give off these flavor and a high percent of roasted barley gives you more of that roasty burnt dark flavor.

I have only had a couple of beers that made this a part of the profile. I think that it will do great in a strong RIS with Black Strap Molasses, so that is why I am curious.
