I brewed a kit from Great Fermentations out of Indianapolis. First Batch I ever did and it came out very well. Nothern Brewer has one also. I just kegged and dry hopped it. I tasted a sample and it should be excellent. Right now they have 15% off all brew kits if you use the promo code makegreatbeer

I just brewed the Northern Brewer Black IPA on Sunday. It looked and smelled great before it went into the primary. The airlock was still bubbling away as of 6am this morning.

This was my first time using a NB kit, but I'm very happy with it. This beer was also my first time making a yeast starter and will by my first beer to need a secondary fermentation.

I'm very excited about this beer. I can wait to sample it.

I brewed NB's Black Ipa recently - I loved it. It's a lot smoother than I expected and the hops are very well balanced. It's also a pretty quick beer. A yeast starter probably would have been a good idea, though, as I only reached 65% attenuation. Cheers!

BYO published both allgrain and extract recipes for Widmer's Pitch Black IPA and Barley Brown's Turmoil (which won gold at GABF).

I racked my NB Black IPA into the secondary today. FG is 1.021. SG was 1.075. If I did the math right, it's 7.2% ABV. It looks, smells and tastes great. Now a few more weeks before bottling.

I brewed Midwest's kit Hopstache Black IPA w/ Safale US-05 and it was a huge hit! I highly recommend it.

I brewed NB's Black IPA and had some problems with it. There is so much sugar in this kit that when I bottled they carbed up really fast. I have volcanoes with 22oz bottles. The kit calls for 1lb of corn sugar at the end of the boil.

I am a rookie so I am sure I did a couple of thing wrong.

Midwest doesn't carry Hopstache except for a short time and I missed out. Been wanting to try that one.
I've got one bottled and kegged for 10 days that I used compliments of tknice on this forum. Haven't tried it yet but it smelled great and tasted very nice in the test jar.

I did a recipe very close to the NB Black IPA. I had to sub out some hops my LHBS didn't have that the recipe called for. My gravity readings are exactly where yours are at. And it does look and smell great doesn't it?! Glad I'm doing something right! Try the recipe if you want to do a black ipa.

I had to use two yeast packs for mine because it got big quick. Took 3 months to carb, but it was worth it. It's been aging for about 5 months at it keeps getting better.

Also if you can do a full-volume boil, it will make it a lot better. Adding a pound of corn sugar is necessary, but it can taste sweet if it's a condensed boil because you aren't getting enough efficiency from your hop extraction.
