My wife wants to buy me a second keg for our wedding anniversary and I was wondering if I could get some info on the best deals on used ball lock kegs and shipping. The keg I have now came as a kit with my other kegging equipment so this is the firs one that I have had to purchase individually. Midwest supplies has free shipping but they have been sold out for six months. Thanks for the help.

Adventures in Homebrewing and Keg Connection are two of the better vendors, IMO.

I've had great success with cornykeg.com. That said, I've only purchased new kegs and some other misc. parts.

Anybody pick up the 2 pack of reconditioned kegs from kegerator.com for $101? I picked up two back in November for about the same price and they were perfect. So I purchased some more this week. Hopefully they are as good or close.

I bought all 9 of my kegs (6 in person, and 3 via ebay) from McEver Distributing:

Obviously there is significant advantage to picking them up yourselves (very accommodating) but I had no issues with any of the shipped ones. All came pressurized. They combine shipping (which is what kills you when buying these anywhere online).

You have a link to that deal?
Especially if they're ball lock.

I bought my ball lock from Birdman! I recommend it :) I ordered it yesterday morning and my tracking shows that it will be here tomorrow. Sure we only live a couple hours apart but it shipped out pretty much right after placing the order, good store to go through.

Got my four kegs from kegerator.com. Couldn't be happier. No dents and no loose handles. I also love that two of them are from the 7up beverage in the Bronx. I'm a New Yorker. All holding pressure. That's 6 for me so far from there and not a problem with any of them.

Would only buy when that deal or something close is in place. Used kegs to me should be no more then $50-$55.

$39.99 with cheap shipping. A little Gorilla Glue makes them perfect. They are always in good shape. I've bought multiple from them.

$29.99. Low profile ball locks. NOT CONVERTED PIN LOCK!!! I own a couple of these to sit on the compressor hump. Came in great shape too.

Best deals by far on the internet.

(No. I do not work for them. It's just a good deal that I'm excited to share.)

Any pics of yours? A lot of residue to clean? I always catch myself browsing that site and debating on buying those loose handled ones.
I'm borderline on spending the extra $40 somewhere else to get Brand New Clean ones.

They do have syrup in them, but a quick rinse in hot water removes everything. I'm at work now, or I'd snap a few pics. I've bought 6 from them so far, over a few months. All were good, except one had an odd leak. They replaced it and they paid return shipping too. They come pressurized, and they guarantee it will not leak.

I never found the "looseness" on two of the loose handle ones I bought. One had loose rubber on the side of a handle, and the other 3 had slightly loose bottoms. I gorilla glued them, and they're like normal used kegs now. I've had no issues, and I'm not very nice to my kegs. Lol!

I have two green ones, and the rest were black. They look ugly on the website pics, but the ones I've received look normal. Like I said, the inside cleans easily. The outside was dirty, but that just took a hose and a rag outside to fix.

I'll never waste my money on new kegs. Old ones are just as good. There's plenty of other gear I can easily waste money on. (I'm looking at you Mr. Beer Gun.)

Did the lids come with pressure relief valves?

Yep. They do have cheaper ones with no prv... if you're in to that kind of thing. ;-)

Edit: Looks like the "loose" low profile kegs don't have prvs now. Mine did when I bought them. That sucks.

The regular "loose" ball locks still have prvs though.

Did your loose handle kegs need new O rings? Im about to bite on that deal and wasnt sure if I needed to include more rings in my purchase. Thanks!

Let's say a keg doesn't have a pressure relief valve. Can't you purge it by putting a spare liquid out on the other post (with no tubing).

Wouldn't that work?

Anyone have a better idea?

I'm interested in that pack of 3 gallon shorties, but no valves..

If you want a beer shower that would work....
I usually take the gas post off and push down on the poppet to relieve the pressure

I found these at the same site if you are ok with 4 PIN LOCKS FOR CHEAP

so I got em and here's a review -

4 PACK of 3 Gallon (AIH) Keg Review homebrewing.org

Just bought them From that above link from AIH-2 weeks or so ago. Came slightly pressurized with a bit of soda residue-
Outside - a bit worn and grimy (who knows where they've been !) no stickers!- Nothing PBW, Oxy-Clean and starsan couldn't handle.
Cleaned up the rubber good, no major scratches dents or dings-
Came out awesome !

Replaced all old with 'INCLUDED' new seals and o-rings. You'll need a pin lock socket to properly remove In and Out sides (and poppets) and clean. Mine were on there tight !
All hold pressure well and are filled with beer now ! Fit great in my new 12 Cu Ft Kegerator I'm starting to build.

They mention that there are 2 types they sell. (yea~ different size threads or something for some reason) I just asked for 4 of the same....and 4 similar ones came 3 days later~ UPS.
Excellent deal.
Also even though there is no pressure relief valve, I found that my Ball lock lids fit !! ..so any ball lock lid (with relieve valve) solves that PITA issue!
and its an issue always having to remove the Gas line → to purge gas.!!

Would totally recommended them for "BATCH SPLITTERS" ! or 3 gal brewers !!

They were 139$ when I first saw then-
I procrastinated (like you ) and they dropped to 125$ ! for 4 .
