Anyone got any suggestions for the best "base" extract kit to buy from Northern to use in an attempt to make a spruce beer?

I'll already be ordering the bourbon barrel porter kit, and wanted to just order another kit from them, but am a bit torn on which to get.

Based on the spruce beers I have had in the past, which were lighter/reds, I'm currently leaning toward the English Pale Ale, or the Irish Red Ale, but wondered if anyone else had any experience or suggestions. Don't want to try spruce with a dark.

Thanks!

Tom

I did a spruce IPA. I really liked it because the resinous flavor of the spruce accentuated the hops. I'd go that route, but an English Pale would be good too.
