I am trying to brew a Bell's Best Brown clone. What better place to start than the BYO clone recipe.
5.5 gallon batch
OG = 1.058 FG = 1.013 IBUs = 30 ABV = 5.9%
8.25 lbs Briess Pale 2-row
14 oz Briess Victory
14 oz Briess Special Roast
14 oz Briess Crystal 60L
2 oz Briess Chocolate
6.2 AAU Cascade (60 min)
3.25 AAU Nugget (60 min)
1.2 AAU Fuggle (15 min)
2.4 AAU Fuggle (2 min)
MASH 155F
75 min boil
Wyeast 1056
This looks pretty tasty to me. If anyone has experience cloning this beer, please give me any input that you have on recipe changes.
As for the yeast question. I just harvested the yeast out of a Bell's Pale Ale and made a 1L starter. Most of the sources I have looked at say that Bell's uses the same yeast in most of their brews, which is why I used the Pale Ale I had on had. Is this true? Also, I have heard reports that the Bell's yeast is the same as the Wyeast 1056 - which I always have on hand.
Thanks in advance!
