Hi guys!

So first of all, I know it is a big no-no to post to a forum without lurking first... but patience is not my greatest virtue and, uh, I'm slightly buzzed right now. I figured an introduction couldn't hurt too much and I promise to read up lots in the next few weeks!

I'm a beer lover and bioscience engineering girl from Belgium. I mention my studies because we had an amazing course on beer brewing, taught by a professor who also worked at Duvel Moortgat (the 'Duvel' brewery), I loved that subject but never really put it into practice until now.

A few years ago, I found out that the rashes and digestive issues I had my whole life were due to a gluten intolerance. Huge disappointment. I have since managed to stop missing bread and pasta (and lots of other sneaky grains), but beer is my kryptonite. Gluten intolerance is not very well understood in Belgium and GF beers are, well, not a thing. I have found a few brands in specialist stores but it is super limited.

One day I started looking up how GF beers are made and a few days of consideration later I had ordered a brew kit, a wort concentrate and some gluten-reducing enzyme. A few weeks ago my first batch was done and it tastes great! My 2nd batch is now in maturation. I know, big deal, it was just following instructions on a kit from fermentation onward, but I'm already a proud beer-momma. I think I caught the brew bug. I'm currently looking into investing in a brew kettle and other equipment.

Anyway, I figured the best way to learn is not just google but also a good forum so here I am! :ban:

Welcome! I must say that I am somewhat envious that one of my bucket list spots is Belgium. Belgian beers is really what got me interested in craft beers and homebrewing. I love the culture and history that surrounds such unique and absolutely terrific beers from Belgium. Welcome to the forums
