A few months ago I brewed a Vanilla Porter that I then aged in a barrel. I didn't have a second brew lined up, ready to go in the barrel. I'd like to use it again, but i'm not sure if I'd be risking infection or not.
I rinsed the barrel out with hot water, put in some more bourbon plugged it and shook it around in hopes that the liquor would sanitize the barrel and keep it safe until my next use.
Just curious if anyone else has been in this situation and if their barrels have lasted without getting infected.
