I just brought Magnum 14%, green, smelled amazing and very sticky. Which so far as i understand is a good sign for fresh hops. But even with higher amount 1,25 oz (35 gram) i cant say i get any hoppy bitterness with a boil of 60 minutes.

And now beersmith "want" me to add just 0.3 oz (10 gram) for my blonde ale.

Hope anyone could bring any light to this, can it be something in the water?

Thanks in advance!

would need recipe details and any water additions for more info

it could be a water issue if you are lacking in sulfates but it could also be a malt heavy or low IBU/SG recipe

Before we get into water treatments, can you give us this recipe that you brewed so we can determine if it was a problem with the recipe itself?

Pretty decent roasty flavors, but way to much almond flavour. I just learned the % ratio of the specialty grain after the brew. :) No more of that mistake.

You just answered your own question. The bitterness lacked (even though you used 1.25 oz. at 60) because the large % of crystal malt & the sweetness it provided was too high to overcome the bitterness.

I'm kind of doubting anywhere near 100 IBUs was attained from that beer. Both of these beers are in the Imperial IPA IBU range, yet neither are IIPAs. Blonde ales for instance are lowly hopped ales. They usually top off at about 30 IBUs.

Ohh, glad that you cleared that out. :) Thanks a lot!

When you say fresh hops do you mean whole leaf undried hops? If your hops where not dried that might be your problem. You need alot more undried hops then if they where dried.

I think they are dried. Its one of those silver vacuum packaged leaf hops.
