Anybody attach a ball lock disconnect to a racking cane or bottling bucket?

Saw this blog post:

And thought that would be a pretty good idea. Purge a keg with CO2, and if I fermented in something with a spigot (I don't currently) I could have a closed transfer for racking to the keg.

Anybody tried this? And how would you connect the two, aren't they different diameter hoses?

That looks like a cool idea, and I like the idea if doing a closed transfer with a spigot too.

I think you could use 5/16 ID tubing with a 5/16 barb and nut (what's usually on the gas side) but just screw it onto the liquid side disconnect. The 5/16 tube will work well on the spigot too.

Yep, that should do it, may need a hose clamp on the barb end too. Not sure how tight a fit it will be without it, but it couldn't hurt.

I have an extra auto-siphon for this, but have not tried it yet. I think as long as the barb end is matched (5/16 or 1/4), then you're good since the MFL disconnects are interchangeable.

I never thought about this for a bottling bucket, but of course I bottle off the kegs now.

Yup that's how I do it every time.. Heres a pic. I use an auto siphon. Ball lock on the beer out side.

Just get a gas valve barb and it fits perfect into the tube for the racking cane. Don't even need a clamp.

Just make sure us have the relief valve open on the keg.
