I brewed in Mid August. Hurt my back and had surgery. I have been unable to brew since. I have a batch in the primary since August. SNPA cloneish.

Please tell me it will not be a waste of my time to bottle this after 8 weeks in the primary.

Absolutely not! Most folks recommend 3 weeks of primary at a minimum and I would say 8 weeks, if anything, made it that much better of a beer. If you kegged, you could be enjoying this beer 4-5 days from now once it carbonated.

I have a buddy who lets his ale sit in the primary for up to a year.

THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED!

But it still turns out ok. I left an Imperial Stout in the secondary for about 6 months once and it was probably the best beer I ever brewed. I want to make it again, but I wonder how different it will be with the regular 3-6 week fermentation.

I was hoping but I have never left it in the primary that long. In hind sight I do not see my self dumping it but it is nice to get some reassurance.

I have to say, I don't understand these types of threads. Why not just try it? You are asking everyone here if your beer tastes good.

Of course it will be fine. 2 months is nothing.

Hope your back gets better. I've been there.

I agree, that's what others and I say in this thread https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/ne...virtue-time-heals-all-things-even-beer-73254/

If you see your beer through to the end, then you have AT LEAST a 50% chance your beer is going to be fine..and the longer you wait the higher the odds are.

But still, we're talking only two months in primary, we're not even talking about an infection...Is this more of the "Dreaded autolysis" bullsh!t?

Listen yeast fear is one of those oldschool things that has gone away, but the MYTH of it has perpetuated....people have left their beer in primary for 6 months with no problems...and many of us leave our beers 4-6 weeks, so what's two measley weeks more?????

We've pretty much debunked autolysis and the idea that yeast is bad....you can do some reading here.

Well I ended up leaving it 7 months. Bottled it 16 days ago. Tested one last night. Still needs more time in the bottle but is coming along nicely.

Taste was good, less hoppy than it is supposed to be though.
