ummmm.. . I just realized that I was perhaps supposed to leave that ON? I had my first batch of beer, a Scotch Ale, in a primary (bucket) for 1 week and then in a secondary (carboy) now for two, and am going to bottle this weekend. I put the airlock on, but not the cap -- don't ask why, I guess I thought the gasses needed to escape. Anyhow -- is this going to affect anything?
Thanks!

Nope....you'll get drinkable beer! The cap is a good safety measure, but is not necessary. If you had water/vodka in the airlock itself, it has a barrier that can prevent infection

Welcome to HBT!

The cap is to keep the fruit flies and such out but it's not a problem at all not to have them on. Lots of folks lose them anyway. :D
