Just curious if anyone has any thoughts on aging a beer in one of those bourbon finishing barrels (picture the barrels that have spouts coming out of the head). A local bourbon bar sells them when they are empty and I'm trying to figure out if there's a reason why I couldn't use them to age a beer? Is there something I'm not thinking of? Thanks!

Like these things?
If so, you should be fine, though may get yeast/sediment stuck in that spout though.

Because of the increased surface area:volume ratio, you're going to get more oak flavor much faster than with, say, cubes or a larger barrel. Be prepared to take the beer out of it fairly quickly.
