I've read a lot of threads here on how to use milk as an adhesive so that the labels come off easily in water. I'm looking for the opposite though.

I'm brewing a couple of batches for a friend's wedding and I'm pretty sure they'll be serving the beer out of coolers. I'd like to rescue as many of the bottles as possible after the reception, so ease of label-removal isn't exactly at the bottom of the priority list either.

Ideally, I'd love to find a solution that allows for wet cooler chilling but also (at least not impossible) label removal.

Rubber or contact cement was my first thought, and I've seen rubber cement mentioned here a couple of times. What are peoples' experiences with that?

Alternatively, does anyone know of an adhesive I could use that would be water resistant but reacts well (as in dissolves) to some (mild) chemical contact?

Thanks in advance.

I am one of the owners of a custom label site called grogtag.com - we tried to solve this exact problem ( I have been trying to find a good adhesion method in these forums too over the last few months) and in the end the only product we found that had the same properties you need (uv stable, won't come off in water, won't leave a residue etc.) is a low tack vinyl. Extreme shifts from hot to cold will cause the adhesive to get more brittle, but it holds up great in the cooler. Not sure where you can buy it off the shelf though (I think we are using .08 mil -?I might have this thickness wrong). Check with a local sign shop. We are using commercial grade printers so i don't know if it is ink-jettable. If you can't find a do it yourself solution, grogtag.com labels will do what you need.

Thanks, Golddiggie - that looks great! And Thoradis, your shop looks great too - I'll definitely use you guys in the future.

If anyone's curious, in the end I went with kinkos printing and rubber cement adhesive. Worked a charm. A little tougher to get off afterwards, but worth it for how well the labels stood up in the coolers
Cheers.

And yes I did see a portion of GoodDay! Glad to see you on HBT!
