This is a general question, but whats the difference or factors to consider when deciding to add more grain or extract to achieve a higher gravity all-grain batch?

Adding grain will affect the flavor, while extract will only increase gravity?

Adding another 1.5lbs of the base malt will really change the flavor much?

Increasing the base malt a bit won't change the flavor all that much but if you want to be more accurate and/or anal about it, one would add 1.5 pounds of grain at the same percentage as the recipe.

When using extract, adding more extract adds the fermentables at this ratio.

Adding fermentables will increase the gravity whether you get them from mashing grains or adding extract or other sugars.

I think you are talking about steeping grains which does not effect the gravity as much if at all depending on grains used and process.
