ok so i want to do Vanilla Porter would you guys boil the beans int he boil? or pasteurize them and put them in the primary fermenter and if you do, how do you keep the flavor of the bean during pasteurization? i was figuring on boiling in whole beans, and adding extract to the primary what do you guys think?

Cut the beans up pt them in a jar with enought white rum to cover plus a little cap and add a week later. At least th\at is how I did mone and it turned out great. No secondary used.

Definately cut or slit the beans open. I like to put in 1-2 near the end of the boil and 1-2 into the secondary and have always had good luck. The secondary beans help give a great aroma, but the flavor will come from the boil beans. Make sure you transfer the bean from the boil pot to the primary too
