I add all of the water before the grains to help eliminate dry grist stuck in the bottom of the tun but I'm sure your method worked as well.

Document everything you did today and figure out why your temps where a bit high. Once you have it figured out you will just about nail your mash temps every time.
 
It did work fine. I also did document. I am convinced that 165 for initial water temp will suffice. Thanks for the tips! The longer I brew the more important documentation becomes for sure!
