I have started to do 10 gal batches and I am wondering if I can just double this recipe or if I can lower the base malt to save on space. I have a 10 gal rubber-maid water cooler with a Phillis bottom and a sparge arm, in the past I have batch sparging and have been using a piece of SS braided line. so will the new bottom and the sparge arm help make up for less base malt. With a 10 gal batch I would need 25 lbs of grain, is this to much grain for my cooler?

I don't think it would fit. 25 lbs of grain @ 1.5 quarts per pound would be 37.5 guarts of water, then add in grain volume. 5% better efficiency would translate to only a 1.3 pound reduction in grain.

I say cut your grain bill to about 18 lbs and make it up with extra light DME.

I will have to try the recipe with the sparge arm (5gal) and see how much sugar I am leaving behind ( will have to boil it down to reach the 5-6 gal mark) but cutting out grain and adding DME will be just fine. thanks for the in put.
