It is NOT a style.
It is NOT malt.
It is NOT yeast.
It is NOT a hop.
It is NOT used to adjust water chemistry.
It does NOT add fermentables.
It does NOT need to be added during the boil.
It is NOT water.
It is NOT yeast nutrient.
It is NOT a fining.
It is NOT an herb.

It IS an ingredient.
It DOES add flavor.

It would be easier if you guys weren't taking so many stabs at the answer and instead worked to narrow it down descriptively a bit more.

It can be used in just about any style (while still remaining "to style" if used in an appropriate amount), but commercially is mostly used for a specific one.

Probably not, although it could be used to fix a newbie mistake.

Really. This is something you'd pretty much only find from a brewing supplier/LHBS, so it really isn't something arbitrary like "apricot".
