OK, I usually brew on the fly, and make recipes in my head. I am horrible about writing anything down, and have few notes. Since I have never made the same brew twice, consistency was non-existent. I decided to change all that. I purchased Beersmith, and have cranked out a few basic recipes. I have yet to brew a big IPA, so I put together a recipe. I just want to know what everyone thinks about it, good or bad. Thanks!

I think 18.5% crystal malts is WAY too much. Drop the C-pils. It's not needed in a big beer. Replace it with some sugar. If you keep the remaining C-malts, mash no higher than 150F.

I use all of those hops extensively, and I would move the Citra to either dry hop or flame-out, it's more suited to aroma and/or flavor than as an early addition...

Cheers!

I dunno.. the Green Flash West Coast IPA clone is similar, and it's a fantastic IPA. I've made it multiple times.

14 lbs US 2 row
1.31 lbs Crystal 40 (substituted for Carastan)
1.31 lbs Carapils

depends how you like your IIPA's. For me, i believe a IIPA emphasizes hops and thats it.

That amount of carapils is not needed. You could do 3-4% of C-60 and then 3-4% of Carapils, drop the Special B. Add some dextrose to the boil to increase the ABV and dry out the beer. And then up your hopping a bit (IIPA i would go anywhere from 80-100 IBU's). You will get the most bang (aroma, flavor wise) out of dry hopping and 2 oz. for 6 gallons is a little weak. I would do at the very least 3-4 ounces.

Your FG looks good, i would still aim for about that. These are my opinions though. I again believe that IIPA's should be hop dominant, not necessarily overly bitter, but a nice bitterness and an abundant amount of hop flavor and aroma.

Mash would be done on a round cooler @150 for 75 minutes, batch sparge.
Fermentation would be controlled temp in a Inductor conical. Most likely 65 stepped to end at 70.

I do like the idea of dropping the carapils. I've used it frequently in my smaller beers, but I think the sugar would be more beneficial. May sub in some dextrose instead.

Sounds delicious. Just out of curiosity, what does BeerSmith say your bitterness ratio is? (found to the right of the style comparison)
