Default All-Grain - Bee Cave Brewery Rye IPA

Recipe Type: All Grain
Yeast: Safale-05
Yeast Starter: Hydrated Dry
Batch Size (Gallons): 5.5
Original Gravity: 1.064
Final Gravity: 1.010
IBU: 67
Boiling Time (Minutes): 90
Color: SRM 9
Primary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 10 days at 62-65 degrees
Additional Fermentation: Crash cool to 39 degrees for 3 days then keg
Secondary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): None
Tasting Notes: Spicy, malty, & very tasty!

BCB Rye IPA

This is a tasty, yet big beer at 7.2% abv. The flaked barley gives it incredible head retention and a cascading effect like a nitrogen pour.

10# 2 Row Pils
2# Rye
2# Vienna
12 oz. Crystal 60L
8 oz. Flaked Barley

1 oz. Tettnanger FWH 4.4% (First Wort Hopped)
1 oz. Chinook 60 min 12%
0.5 oz. Chinook 30 min 12%
0.5 oz. Chinook 5 min 12%

Mashed in at 154 degrees for 70 minutes. Ran off 7 gallons and boiled for 90 minutes.

Saaz would work. You can get Tettnanger at Northern Brewer BTW.

Don't forget the 8 ounces of Flaked Barley for out of this world head.

This looks excellent, and i've got a 1/2 lb of Chinook just waiting for some lovin'. What do you think about Willamette instead of the Tettnanger? Obviously a different flavor profile, but i think it could fly.

German Spalt, German Spalt Select, U.S. Tettnanger, Saaz

What would you think of some Simco in place of the Chinook. I just got 2 OZS of 11.6%AA

It depends on what you think of Simcoe, I think the aroma and taste is like cat pee( I'm serious)
I do not like Simcoe and it will change the recipe quite a bit if you are susceptible to those flavors
I've had this beer and liked it but I would not with Simcoe

For sure Simco is a different taste, but I see lots of clones of the dogfish 60 miniute IPA using it. I was going to try one of those but I also wanted to do one with Rye, then I saw this recipie and figured it may be the right one for me. I will try it and see how it comes out. Results will be posted

That's the thing about homebrewing, ya never know till you try.

That's why I keep my first time batches to 5 gallons.
