i am newer to brewing and found this website

it is an online version of the book "how to brew" lots of good info should help to answer some questions and advance your brewing techniques

YES - always have a spray bottle filled with sanitizer around and spray the spigot in and out before bottling

No you did not mess up. Actually if you had boiled it that would be more like messing up because boiling a pre-hopped kit would most likely change the hops flavour/bitterness profile. Even in that case the beer may still taste fine, but it would be different than the intended taste.
