I'll wait until the first 5 years of trouble shooting take place.

In the meantime I'll keep using XP Pro until some bastard developer
makes me switch to Vista.

Interested to see if anyone got the Beta though.

Since i only have a single core P4 3.0 gigahertz i am keeping my XP Pro SP2.
Win 7 or Vista are resource hogs and need a faster machine to be enjoyable.

My DX9 games all run fine, so i have no reasons to upgrade yet.

Not a chance!

I just got Vista 64 running fine after I have replaced nearly every piece of incompatible hardware I own (printer, scanner, camera, phone, etc....)

Wait.....

Yeah what, exactly is the justification for a new version of Windows?

Just as Vista becomes moderately stable they roll out a Beta for a
brand new OS that they will develop technology and applications for
that will cause people to want or need to buy it.

Shouldn't they be more worried with making a rock solid OS that
people can use for their computers instead of making a rock solid
business model that they can market consumers with?

If that doesn't get ya'. They are already working on Windows 8 and 9.

I haven't installed it but a friend her at work (networking/sys admin guy) has installed it and read up on it. Apparently Vista = Millennium and 7 = XP. According to some tests it actually runs faster than XP. I'll look in to it at some point, XP works for me, and eventually I'll just skip over Vista to something more stable.

I read a lengthy article about the developement of Windows 7.

Basically it read that the dev team talked to IT pros, gamer geeks, some hackers, and joe.

The concensus was that the system should be able to manage resources like Vista but without all the OSX immitations. That it should be user controlled akin to XP.

I've installed the beta on two different pc's so far.

I actually seems decent, for a beta at the very least.

Like a lot of other people I'm NOT a Vista fan...partly because I have to support it at my job and it causes just too many issues with users.

I try to give everything a shot at least once...just for comparisons sake.

Ubuntu is my personal favourite these days!!!

I have been using it since before the public beta came out and I am loving it. This comment is coming from someone that has been running linux exclusively for the last two years. In the two months that I have been using it I have had absolutely no freezing or stability issues (FAR more stable than XP even in beta).

Although it took me a few days to get used to the new UI changes, I feel that they are much more intuitive than previous versions of windows.

If Windows 7 were to be released today in its current form I would buy it.

This is running on my notebook with the following specs:
Acer aspire 5672wlmi
1.66ghz intel core duo (32bit)
2gb ddr2 memory
ati X1400 mobility
160gb hdd (sata)

NOTE: as with vista, windows 7 will require 2+ gb ram. my system idles at about 700mb.

These guys are smart.

Fail.

Edit - Have you been using Windows 7 for more than just browsing and
the such???

I don't know if this was specifically directed at anyone but I am bored.

I have been using Windows 7 as my primary os for a few months. I have been using it for image editing (photoshop, and Fireworks), video encoding (divx), Audio Recording (adobe soundbooth, amplitube), gaming (old games like cs1.6 and diablo 2), and schoolwork (ms office) without any trouble so far.

I am normally a linux people... :(
