What Cleaner For Aluminum?

I just got an aluminum 10# CO2 tank, FULL,(re-dated 09/08) from Gearbeer for 45 bucks.

It is a little dirty and oxidized, so what do I have laying around my house to clean it with? I haven't cleaned aluminum for as long as I can remember.

Simplegreen, Barkeepers Friend, Brasso? I have no clue what to start with, so I figured that someone else has recently gone through all this before me.

What cleans aluminum up?

elbow grease and a scotchbrite pad.

basso might work for the oxidation.

Unless it's right out in the open, why bother cleaning it? let it be 'industrial!'
