KGB Keezer Build

I began modifying the freezer to accept two 1/6 barrels at a time. I first removed the lid and will be adding a 10" collar. This will give me the clearance I need to fit the two kegs with all associated hardware.

This is a Frigidaire 5 cu ft. Freezer.

I made the collar out of poplar 1x10s. Fine ass craftsmanship

All wired up! I maintained the integrity of the original cord by cutting apart an extension cord. What you see here is the original freezer cord plugged into the extension cord.

The hot line extension cord is connected to the switched side of the Love controller's relay.

I wired the hot, plug side of the cord to the other side of the switch. I connected the ground and neutral back to their original ends of each side of the cord.

I also had to jumper the switched hot and neutral to a separate terminal block on the controller, since the the controller receives its power from a standard wall socket.

I wired the thermistor last. It is important to keep it separate from the routes that the power lines take. The lines are sensitive to the magnetic fields produced from the AC power cables.

I stained and lacquered the collar and used epoxy to secure it to the freezer.

I fitted 2" thick, R-10, extruded polystyrene insulation to the collar and caulked all seams. It's tighter than a mosquito's *******.

very nice man. Did you use 2 1x10's stacked? in the painted pic it looks like the wood is as thick as the 2" foam.

I used 1 X 10s. What you see is painted flat steel for a nice smooth surface for the weatherstripping to adhere to. The Flat steel is 1.5" thick, so the insulation actually slides under it to meet the collar.

How do you like that drip/splash tray?

The drip tray is nice, but when I ordered it, I didn't realize it had the drain on it. This would have worked nicely on a shank-through-door upright. Since there are no refrigerant lines in the doors, you can burrow a hole right back into your refrigerated space and collect the drip. On the chest though, it becomes an issue of how to route the drain line without sacrificing the aesthetics. I am still working on this issue.

Oh, I think I could have fabricated a nicer drip tray myself for 1/4 the cost.
